Treatment Plant Operator
Rogue Valley Sewer Services (RVSS) is actively recruiting a wastewater treatment plant operator. Certification as a Wastewater Treatment Operator by the Oregon DEQ is preferred, but not required. RVSS is a regional provider of sanitary sewer and stormwater services for several cities and unincorporated areas in Jackson County, Oregon. RVSS operates two wastewater treatment plants serving the cities of Shady Cove and Gold Hill, as well as a septage treatment lagoon.
Essential Functions
This position works under the direction of the Treatment Manager. The work is focused on the operation and maintenance of the mechanical components of the wastewater treatment plant. Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Routine preventive maintenance of mechanical systems, including pumps, electric motors, generators, and vehicles.
- Trouble-shooting mechanical systems to identify and isolate problems.
- Complex repair or replacement of mechanical equipment, including the replacement of valves, blowers, pumps, shaft couplings, gearboxes, motors, bearings, actuators, and control equipment typically found in wastewater treatment facilities.
- Perform all of the duties of a Maintenance Worker.
- Monitor and report influent and effluent wastewater characteristics in accordance with the permit schedule.
- Conduct laboratory analysis of wastewater.
- Adjust chemical feed rates, sludge wasting and other plant operations to ensure compliance with discharge permit.
- Maintain plant buildings and grounds in good operating order.
- Coordinate sludge disposal.
- Expertise in maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, experience is auto mechanics, millwrighting, or facility mechanics desired.
- Basic knowledge of activated sludge treatment processes.
- Basic knowledge of wastewater laboratory practices and procedures.
Must obtain the following certificates and licenses within 6 months of hire
- Level I Wastewater Treatment Certificate.
- Oregon CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements
- Flagging Certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Forklift Safety Certificate
Starting pay scale is $29.16 to $32.48 per hour. The pay scale for employees with a Level II Wastewater Treatment Certification from the Oregon DEQ is $34.10 to $39.76 per hour.

Treatment Plant Relief/Maintenance Operator
The City of Sutherlin has a job opening for a Treatment Plant Relief/Maintenance Operator –
Salary ranges from $48,144 to $61,428 annually and is a non-exempt status position. This
position involves the responsibility for maintaining equipment of the Public Works Water and
Wastewater Treatment Plants, system pump and lift stations and reservoirs. The position includes
the responsibility of performing required tasks in maintenance and plant operations, keeping and
maintaining accurate records, and related activities and works under the direct supervision of the
Water or Wastewater Sub-Divisional Supervisor(s).
Necessary special requirements include the possession of, or ability to obtain, valid Oregon Class
A Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements for Air Brakes within 1 year. Required to
live within a 30 minutes response time of the city limits of Sutherlin. Must be willing to work a
workweek which includes one day of the weekend such as Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday
through Saturday. Minimum qualifications for this classification include, or able to obtain within
1 year, an Oregon Certification Grade Level I and basic components of water treatment and
distribution systems, and wastewater treatment and collection systems.
